[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Did you know that your Shampoo probably contains chemicals which are also found in Engine Degreaser, Anti-Freeze and Brake Fluid?
Have a look at your Shampoo ingredient labels and you will most likely find Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Propylene Glycol and Methyl & Propyl Paraben.
SLS can be found in harsh detergents and is used to break down the surface tension of water. Industrial uses include concrete floor cleaners, engine degreasers and car wash detergents to name a few.
So why does it matter if you’re not eating the chemicals? Because we know that anything you put on your skin topically will find its way through your pores and into your blood stream.
The ‘Journal of the American College of Toxicology’ stated the following:
- SLS is used in clinical studies to irritate skin tissue.
- SLS corrodes hair follicles and impairs ability to grow hair.
- SLS enters and maintains residual levels in the heart, liver, lungs and brain from skin contact.
- SLS denatures protein, impairs proper structural formation of young eyes – damage permanent.
- SLS can damage the immune system, cause separation of skin layers and cause inflammation of the skin.
Propylene Glycol is another chemical that is used in brake fluid, anti-freeze, laundry detergents, paints & coatings and floor wax.
Propylene Glycol serves as a Humectant – a substance that helps retain moisture content, or simply – it prevents things from drying out. This is the reason it’s used in skin care & cosmetics. It makes the skin feel moist and soft and keeps the products from drying out.
The Material Safety Data Sheet for Propylene Glycol states:
Implicated in contact dermatitis. kidney damage and liver abnormalities; can inhibit skin cell growth in human tests and can damage cell membranes causing rashes, dry skin and surface damage.
Most companies claim that these chemicals are safe. But what long term tests have been done to prove that these chemicals aren’t doing long term damage? After all cancer is also linked to the use of many harsh chemicals. 50 years ago we didn’t have half the levels of cancer as we do today. 50 years ago we weren’t using half the amount chemicals we use today either.
How do we know that the build up of these chemicals isn’t contributing to health problems?
So why are these chemicals used?
Because they’re cheap and they do the job!
But there are alternatives which are free from these harsh chemicals. One brand is Empassion Natural which produces natural face, body & hair products from natural plant derived sources.
The product range is natural, it’s not tested on animals, it’s Australian made and it’s affordable!
